Good to know

• Most households must apply every year.

• If everyone in your household is 62 or older and your only income is from Social Security or KPERS, you may qualify for up to three years. You will be notified when it’s time to renew.

• The amount you receive depends on your income, household size, housing type, and heating fuel.

• Benefits can be divided between two bills if both are in the name of an adult in your household.

• You can only get one benefit each year. A supplemental benefit may be given if there are extra funds.

Cold Weather Rule

The Cold Weather Rule helps protect your electric, gas, and water service during winter. To use it, you need to set up a payment plan with your utility company. This rule applies to residential customers under the Kansas Corporation Commission.
