While the world has their eyes on the COVID-19 crisis, life goes on. It is true that legislators are too busy writing, introducing and even passing emergency laws to curb the spread of the virus and to prevent the economy from collapsing. Rarely do bills have as quick of an answer and with the support of both parties as we are seeing now. However, much more is happening that we are not paying attention to.
Such is the case with the recent law number 116-129 passed and adopted as a law signed by the President of the United States on March 23, 2020, which ensures the implementation of the 5th generation in mobile communication nationwide.
What does this mean? Technologically, we are talking about more communication towers and higher speed on our mobile phones, which is expected to be 10 times faster than the current 4G. Better quality in video or video conferencing transmission. And more connectivity, i.e. the new 5G towers will have more people connected with less chance of the network being saturated.
It is important that we are all aware that our phones will be changing very soon to this new technology, we may have to buy new phones because many times the artifacts that we have now will not be able to work properly with the new technology, since it is expected that 5G network for its power uses much more battery.
There is also the other side of the coin, the concern and activism of health and environmental advocates who have opposed the implementation of the 5G network for years, and which makes us think that is the reason why they are taking advantage of the situation that we are living in right now to pass the law without anyone noticing. Many media outlets say that the network is secure while countless scientific studies of the 2G and 3G networks (much less powerful) have shown that the waves emitted by the towers that send the signals to our cell phones are the cause of many discomforts and even carcinogenic effects in humans. There are not many studies on the effects of the 4G network as the government has limited funding for such studies. Several recent publications show studies indicating that the effects of exposure to waves emitted by mobile signal towers include increased risk of cancer,mainly skin cancer, stress, genetic damage, changes in the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders and negative impacts on human well-being. One of the groups that has opposed the implementation of this new technology for what they say causes harm to living beings, including animals and plants is the so-called The International EMF Scientist Appeal.
